Abhivyakti of Hansraj College which is a student run folk dance society started in the year 2019. Abhivyakti was founded by a team of passionate people and since it’s inception the team has expanded from 3 to 30 members within a span of 2 years. The members come from various parts of India bringing with them their own cultural talents. We believe that Traditional dances will disappear if they are not preserved. Folk dance includes numerous cultural expressions that reflect human creativity and that are also found in many other intangible cultural heritage domains. It involves one’s ability to stand back from where he or she is to become more aware of cultural values, beliefs, and perceptions. Preserving these values, beliefs, and traditions can pose a great challenge especially today when culture has become vulnerable because of globalization. Abhivyakti works with the aim of preserving the varied Indian culture and passing it on to the next generation through promoting and performing it. Ever since it’s inception, the members have performed folk forms including Haryanvi, Pahadi, Bhavai Bhangra, Bihu, lavani. Abhivyakti organized its first ever annual fest- 'Laasya’20' in the month of February which attracted participants from folk dance societies from DU circuit. We have also performed in various college cultural events.
