Hansraj College has been fortunate enough to receive special grants under the aegis of STAR COLLEGE SCHEME sponsored by the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Government of India. The mandate of this programme is to primarily improve the biotechnology component in the existing syllabi by means of critical innovative thinking and by providing the students with hands on training. The college organizes research oriented events under this programme and has upgraded the scientific infrastructure of the college. There are four participating departments viz. Department of Botany, Chemistry, Physics & Electronics and Zoology. Students of these departments have been involved in minor research projects which are primarily interdisciplinary in nature. Several equipments have been procured under this scheme to cater with promoting research to students. Grants have also been received to purchase books/journals/periodicals under this scheme. The financial support provided to the departments of Botany, Zoology, Chemistry and Physics & Electronics in the form of STAR college grant sanctioned by DBT has helped to procure various equipment and convene various workshops and conferences. Some of the events that were organized in the last three years (2015-17):

  • The Workshop on "Construction and Analysis of Phylogenetic Trees" was held at Department of Zoology, Hansraj College on February 23, 2017.
  • The Workshop on "Zebrafish- as model organism" was held at Department of Zoology, Hansraj College on February 21 and 22, 2017.
  • The Workshop on "Drosophila- as a model organism" was held at Department of Zoology, Hansraj College on January 20 and 21, 2017.
  • The Workshop on "Techniques in Immunology" was held at Department of Zoology, Hansraj College on December 19 and 20, 2016.
  • Faculty Development Programme on "Advances in Optoelectronics and MATLAB" at Hansraj College funded by Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India was held on October 4, 2016.
  • Seminar on "Physics of Stars" at Hansraj College funded by Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India was held on April 1, 2016.
  • Workshop on "Biotechnology Techniques" held at Department of Zoology, Hansraj College on March 21 and 22, 2016.
  • Workshop on "Characterization of Materials by X-Ray Diffraction" at Hansraj College funded by Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India was held on February 23-24, 2016.
  • Workshop on Embedded Systems at Hansraj College funded by Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India was held on January 15-16, 2016.
  • Faculty Development Programme on "Embedded systems and synthesis of nano-materials" at Hansraj College funded by IQAC, Hansraj College and Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India was held on January 6-7, 2017.
  • Workshop on "Integrating ICT in Teaching and Learning" at Hansraj College funded by Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India was held on December 11-18, 2015.
  • The "Workshop for students on Bioinformatics" was held at Department of Zoology, Hansraj College on September 28th, 2015.
