Skill Development through Seri-technology: where tradition meets with innovation.

Title of the Practice

Skill Development through Seri-technology: where tradition meets with innovation.

Objectives of the Practice

We are deeply committed to preserving the rich heritage of silk production while embracing modern techniques to enhance quality and sustainability. Overall development of students through innovative and environment friendly approach of NET ZERO CONCEPT and contribute in the service of the society through green skill in general and women empowerment in particular. Aim to enhance contemporary modern tools and technologies in the area of Seri-technology and work on WASTE TO BEST. It offers a chance to enrich recent advancements in pertinent domains.

The Context

Efforts were made to create mini seri-forest for OXYZONE in the campus without chemical fertilizers. Climatic conditions were the most challenging issues in the applicability in northern India.

The Practice

Students are able to learn the organic silkworm culture and produce the cocoon and varieties of silk. Additionally, developed a variety of value-added products which supports the new start-up, entrepreneurship, and self-employment for the women’s and young generation. We are also dedicated to uplift the livelihood of the seri-farmers by sharing our discoveries, technologies and innovations.

Evidence of Success

Developed wound healing patches, sericin and fibroin protein, green tea, textile designing, sericulture-app for farmers and researchers, cocoon crafted materials, sericin based bandage, Seri glow, silk protein-based lip balm, silk soap, mulberry jute etc. (Photo attached).

More than 400 students/faculties/scientists of various universities, colleges and schools including foreign delegates were visited and explored the activities on how to help the environment by generating income through seri-technology.

Problems Encountered and Resources Required

The concept was challenging one to introduce as there were issues such as it should be full time activity as they need to be engaged in silkworm rearing/cocoon production/crafting etc. at least for a month. Encouraging students/farmers to do better quality work within the timeframe.

Note

We are working on the concept of soil to silk and silk to space. By adopting seritechnology, we can contribute to the Indian economy and help to move a step forward towards Skill India, Atma Nirbhar Bharat and Viksit Bharat Abhiyaan of India. We emphasize on waste to best concept and developed various cocoon crafted materials from the seri waste. Training female students for the silkworm cocoon production, silk reeling and dyeing, application of silk protein, silk-based value-added product development. MoU with organizations that are dedicated for the upliftment of farmers, women empowerment and Divyangjan through learning and earning to maintain a social status in the society.
