We strongly believe that pedagogy is well strengthened not only by imparting best lectures but also by giving students an exposure of 'hands on practice' through practical classes and research projects. The department has very experienced and trained dedicated-members in its faculty list who have received recognition at national and international levels. The proficient faculty have reputed publications in diverse fields of biological sciences. The course provides an all-inclusive knowledge in a diverse range of subjects with lower to higher plants, microbes, biochemistry, cell biology, systematics of plant flora, Indian ecology, environment, commodities and forestry, cytogenetics, molecular genetics, biotechnology, bioinformatics, analytical techniques, industrial and environmental microbiology, and intellectual property rights. Besides, there are many other additional, skill enhancement, and discipline-specific courses to opt from. The course is covered with classroom lectures, practicals, field studies, internships, and instructional excursions. The department has air-conditioned, well-ventilated, and fire-safe laboratories for conducting the practical classes to cater various needs of the students. Laboratories are well furnished with expert laboratory assistants and have the provisions of projection systems, various instruments, and many specimens of plants. Botanical gardens of the department are known for the cultivation of several crop, exotic, medicinal, and ornamental plants. Further, the department houses a common computer room, culture room, and research laboratory. Students have the prospects of connecting with different societies of the college in co-curricular activities to upgrade their skill-set along with exposure to numerous career paths. The department provides students to become a part of the Botanical Society (Botanique), which endows its members with innumerable opportunities to broaden their knowledge towards holistic development. It is a platform where students interact, grow together, and endeavor to attain their true potential. The society provides a friendly environment and has objectives of accelerating the spirit of teamwork, confidence, creativity, management, and leadership qualities among students. Scientific spirit is nurtured with opportunities for organizing various conferences, debates, educational trips, presentations, quizzes, webinars, workshops, and various other competitions and events. Moreover, society annually organizes the festival “Floristics” and compiles its Magazine “Passiflora” to get students closer to the subject and express themselves. Possible opportunities that open up after graduation are in the fields of botanical survey, farm management, cellular physiology of plants, eco-botany, florihorticulture, biotechnology, and environmental management.
